Cheikh Raymond, born Raymond Raoul Leyris on July 27, 1912 in Constantine and died murdered on June 22, 1961 in Constantine, is an Arabic-speaking singer and Jewish oud player from Algeria. A master of Arab-Andalusian music, a Jew singing in Arabic, he was respected by both Jews and Muslims in Algeria, who called him "Cheikh Raymond" in the mid-1930s as a sign of respect.
