In 2022, 28-year-old conductor Klaus Makela made an impressive debut with the release of the complete Sibelius symphonies with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, of which he is the chief conductor. It has been two years since that stunning debut. The next release is the first of a series of complete symphonies by Shostakovich, which he will tackle next. Dmitri Shostakovich, the greatest symphonic composer of the 20th century, created 15 symphonies while struggling between the regimented society of the former Soviet Union and his own artistic beliefs. Of the 15 pieces, three are included in this release: Symphony No. 4, written with the largest instrumentation, Symphony No. 5, which was created after World War I, and the lyrical No. 6.
