The Party
A rare non-Pink Panther collaboration between director Blake Edwards and actor Peter Sellers, this very 1960s comedy gets an attractive but simple release on DVD. The Party has been given a letterboxed transfer to disc in the widescreen aspect ratio of 2.35:1, which has also been enhanced for anamorphic playback on 16 x 9 monitors. The transfer is sharp and clean-looking, and makes the most of the movie's candy-colored visual style. The film's audio has been mastered in Dolby Digital Mono; in addition to the original English-language soundtrack, this edition also includes alternate tracks in French and Spanish, and optional subtitles in English, French, Spanish, and Portuguese. The movie's original trailer is the only bonus on this package, which does well by the film but doesn't add much to the proceedings.
