Shade of Soul- Sleep Easy / I'll Take The Hurt (Digital 45)

Wah-wah guitar driven funk is what guides this single but it's the impassioned lead vocals and the fine harmony vocals that really put this ultra-rare offering over the top. Originally released in 1974 on Unity Records, one of Southern Soul Collector's favorite soul and funk labels, "Sleep Easy" b/w "I'll Take The Hurt," is a rare one indeed. Not much is known about this excellent female vocal trio except for the fact that N.Y.C.-based bass player/songwriter Jessie Covington wrote both tracks and perhaps his wife Gloria (who later put out an album on Casablanca), might be the lead vocalist. This mysterious obscure gem has been newly remastered and finally made available in the digital domain.
