Frankie Laine- Frank'S Fifty-Eight Big Ones
The mighty Frankie Laine was something of a late starter, having already been scuffling for some fifteen years before registering his first hit 'That's My Desire' in 1946. He nonetheless quickly established himself as a major newcomer, becoming one of the world's biggest singing stars between the late 1940s and mid 50. Initially, he was perceived to be a hybrid R&B/Jazz singer, but he was rather more than that, being the first of a "new breed" of white Pop singer, eschewing the popular crooning style of Crosby and Sinatra and instead, drawing from Blues stylists like Joe Turner and Jimmy Rushing. Over the course of his career he notched up the best part of a hundred hit records, worldwide. This compilation presents Frankie's fifty-eight biggest hits between 1947-62, accounting for some seventy-to-eighty million record sales between them.
