Arguably one of the greatest musicians and composers in the history of Jazz, Charlie Mingus was a bassist, pianist, composer, arranger and band leader. Before finding fame in his own right, he played with many of the world's greatest musicians as a sideman. This set features him playing on sides from Russell Jacquet, Howard McGhee, Ernie Andrews, Dinah Washington, Lionel Hampton, Oscar Pettiford, Charlie Parker, Quincy Jones & Duke Ellington as well as early studio bands of his own. The original 78's of many of these sides are extremely rare and many have not been re-issued until now. This set is a must for jazz fans and a tribute to Mingus's artistry and versatility.
