Andy Warhol can be described, without fear of contradiction, as the most eccentric of all Pop artists. More than any of them he had a knack for putting himself centre-stage, for stylizing himself into a 'work of art'. Coming to art from a career in advertising, he took the most banal consumer goods and transformed them into art objects, or treated subjects such as devastating road accidents as if they were the sleek and sterile material for an advertising campaign.
